FAQ
Q: ARE WATER TREATMENT SYSTEMS BAD FOR MY SEPTIC SYSTEMS?
A: This has been a long debated issue. Studies have been done and found that “efficiently operated water softeners improve septic tank performance, while the use of very inefficient home softeners may have a negative effect on solids discharge.”
Q: What is the health impact of drinking soft water?
A: The sodium added to water by a softener is a non-issue most of the time, even for people on a sodium-restricted diet. One could soften up to 75 grains per gallon water with sodium chloride and still be well within the US Food and Drug Administration’s guidelines for a “Low Sodium” beverage.
Q: Do I still use the same amount of soap in the WASHER, dishwasher, and showers now that I have a water softener?
A: No, the Water Quality Association states soft water can save up to 55% on detergent use. Start with using half the amount of detergent previously used, this can be adjusted up or down based on preference.
Q: Will water spots disappear now that I have soft water?
A: Water spots caused by hardness scale will disappear with a functioning water softener. If however, there are high enough levels of other natural minerals dissolved in the water, they may cause spotting. We can provide further water testing to identify and recommend treatment.
Q: Should I use soft water for my plants?
A: Some plants may be sensitive to even minute amounts of sodium. If so, you can place your softener on bypass or water from a reverse osmosis system can be used to water plants.
Q: WHY IS BUYING A GOOD QUALITY SALT IMPORTANT?
A: Salt is to your system like gas is to your car. It’s important to keep it running and the quality affects your system’s life and efficiency.
Q: WHAT TYPE AND BRAND OF SALT DO YOU RECOMMEND?
A: Ours, of course! Why?
1. Our salt is a professional brand of salt and it’s cleaner than most other brands.
2. What makes our green bags of salt even more special? They aren’t pellets. They are a solar salt composition but still have the rust remover additive. Why does this matter? Because pellets are more likely to cause bridging in your brine tank. Bridging is a packed solid layer of salt that spans across the width of the brine tank and does not allow the salt level to drop. So you may look into your brine tank and think you have plenty of salt, but the salt is actually raised above the water level and is not going into the system when it regenerates. This means your system is trying to clean itself without cleaner.
3. Both our blue and green salt bags are 50 pounds each, compared to most places locally where they sell 40 pound bags.
4. Not only do you get a better value for your money, but we will even help you load it into your vehicle! Save the hassle of buying salt from the other stores and get convenient and friendly service from your friends at Water Pro.
